The Price-Renner Cemetery

This cemetery is located on the Rank Cromer Road on private property. It is the possibly resting place for many of the earlier Renner-Linville-Rowe family members, including John and Martha Linville Renner and probably Soloman and Lucinda Renner Rowe. [Not so sure about the last sentence anymore, see info on the Rowe-Renner Cemetery.]

As one can see from the photographs, it isn't well-kept. Judging from the sizes of some trees growing up through obvious sunken graves, it hasn't been tended in decades. Fortunately, it's relatively well fenced and protected from cattle. Even though the cemetery is in poor condition, it's one of those which seems to be getting better, not worse. The trees have grown large enough to provide shade sufficient to arrest further undergrowth.

Inventory of the cemetery

The black outline on the drawing below is an approximation of the fenced area as it is today. It is possible the original cemetery extended outside the present boundary on the top right. This map is not to scale.

There are 107 graves in the cemetery. There are a couple of empty spots, but there is no evidence of graves in those areas.

Several of the fieldstone markers are shaped stones and it is evident many originally had names and/or dates on them, but the writing has since faded.

Tombstones with names, not necessarily as they appear on the stones:

1. Granderson Madison Hampton Price, son of Aley Bee Jefferson Price and Elizabeth Jane Renner.

2. Ella M. Price, daugther of Granderson and Elizabeth Grider Price.

3. Elizabeth Price, wife of A.B.J. Price and daughter of John Renner and Martha Linville.

4. Jefferson Renner, son of Granderson Renner and Angeline Price.

5. Angeline Price Renner, wife of Granderson Renner and daughter of Aaron Price and Mary Brown.

6. Granderson Renner, son of John Renner and Martha Linville.

7. Mary M. Mink

8 & 9. David Cromer (son of Joseph Cromer and Mary Linville) and Elizabeth Rebecca Southard Cromer, single stone with both names inscribed and separate footstones.

10. Sarah Louisa Bradley Cromer, wife of Henry Martin Cromer. Her grave and the six to the right are at a different angle than the others in the cemetery. It seems they have been placed facing east.

From the spacing, location, and similar size, the grave above G.M.H. Price's is most likely his wife, Elizabeth Grider.
