The McLemore Rock is a rockhouse-in-formation on a dividing ridge between
Skeggs Creek and
Long Branch near
the High Dry Cemetery. It is mentioned as a landmark in various deeds.
Update 18 May 2004: The earliest reference I have
found is in the 1853 land grant survey for Jonas Williams.
I would be very interesting in learning the origin of the name. As far as I
know, the McLemore family neither owned the property nor lived nearby, but I
could be wrong. If anyone knows more about this subject, please
email me.
